To disseminate the results of their research, the scientific staff of the DSM do not only use conventional forms of publication. They also make use of special exhibitions and events in and around the DSM as a "window on research".
The permanent exhibition of the DSM is split into different areas covering the history of German shipping. The newest of these is the completely updated section "Windjammers – Myth and Reality". Other important sections cover maritime archaeology, naval shipping, navigation, passenger transport, fishery, whaling and much more. On the basis of the latest research results and contemporary design concepts, the exhibition areas in the Scharoun Building will be given a new layout in the next few years.
