Since the 1980s the port of Barcelona has experienced a transformation, which has affected not only the urban structure but also the life of its citizens. Areas that were traditionally dedicated to maritime and commercial activities have been restored as cultural and leisure areas, leading to a closer relationship between citizens and the sea. An example of this transformation is Port Vell, an area with an interesting mix of cultural and leisure activities provided by heritage sites, leisure and sports facilities. Maremagnum Mall; the Aquarium; the Imax cinema (a cinema complex with eight screens),Port Vell Marina, the Sailing and Yacht Clubs, the Maritime Museum and the Catalan History Museum all contribute to the presence of the sea in our lives.
