Maritime tradition

Gdansk takes part in the Baltic Sail which is an annual international 5-week sailors' rally held in Norrköping, Karlskrona, Rostock, Gdansk, Lübeck, and Helsingor. It is dedicated to men at sea and their sailing ships. The Gdansk Sail programme includes the Gdansk Mayor Cup Regattas, dragon boat races along the Motlawa River, and the festival of ‘Shanties at the Crane’. The meeting provides a unique opportunity to go on board the ships, meet the sailors, and have a closer look at the customs and rich tradition that has ruled the tough life under sail for centuries.
The Sea Days, an event being a continuation of the festivities organized during the times of the 2nd Republic of Poland (1918-1939), makes another occasion for Gdansk citizens and our guests to get closer to sea related matters.
