The Fisheries Museum at Hel was opened in 1972. The display here tells the “History of fishing in the Gulf of Gdansk”, a fishing area well known since the Middle Ages. Here we also find evidence of traditional catching techniques, nets and fishtraps, not to mention a variety of old fishing boat types, most of which are on display outside the Museum building. The value of the collection lies in the fact that it has preserved various aspects of a culture which become extinct.
