Below: fragments of the exhibitions presented in Granaries: Marine Arsenal; The underwater archaeology; History of navigation till 20th century; The Middle Ages.
The Museum’s permanent exhibition illustrating Polish maritime history from earliest times to the present day is on show in the former granaries on Olowianka Island, delightfully named “Panna” (Virgin), “Miedz” (Copper) and “Oliwski” (Oliwa). Displayed in 8 spacious halls, the exhibition includes a large 9th century logboat, constructional elements of a 15th-century holk, historical and present-day models of ships, shipbuilding tools, navigational instruments, ships’ fittings and furniture, parts of cargoes, ships’ artillery, sailors’ personal effects, models of ports, wharves and loading/unloading facilities. Many exhibits are artefacts recovered from the wrecks explored by the Museum’s team of underwater archaeologists.
