History

In January 1918, a three masted schooner named Carmen Flores was launched at the beach of Torrevieja. The vessel, active for almost 80 years, underwent various modifications and changes of name. Between 1928 and 1975 it was a motor sailer and went by the names of Puerto de Palma and Cala San Vicenç. From 1975 it was called Sayremar Uno, being used as an auxiliary ship for underwater work. In 1997 the Museu Marítim de Barcelona acquired it by auction.

Its recovery was one of the most significant and difficult challenges for the museum. To recover and restore a historical vessel, adhering to the strictest criteria in terms of the protection of cultural heritage, was a complex task. The operation was also intended as an initial step towards recovering our valuable floating heritage. This experience was the first of its kind to be undertaken in Spain.
